The Minister for Sports and Culture, Protais Mitali, has called on the senior volleyball national team to go out there and make Rwanda proud by landing a World Cup slot in the final round of the 2014 FIVB World Championships qualifiers, due February 12-18 in Cameroon.

The team will depart on Tuesday for one of the biggest tournaments in their history.

Rwanda are in Group One alongside hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Nigeria and Gabon.

The 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championships will be staged in Poland from August 30 through September 21.

“You are going to represent your country, you need to do your best on and off the field. The country is proud of you for what you’ve already accomplished,” the minister told the players at their training camp in Remera on Wednesday.

He added: “We thank you and the volleyball federation for your effort, but we still have a long way to go, keep your eyes on the big prize. You have the opportunity to make your country even prouder.”

“The whole country is behind you, you have the full support of the President and all Rwandans, so you need to go out there and make your country proud.”
