Senators have threatened to start the process of removing Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRM) chair Sarah Serem from office if she does not address the crisis in counties where Members of County Assembly (MCA) have paralysed business.

The senators cautioned that they will bring a vote of no confidence against her, before petitioning President Uhuru Kenyatta to initiate the process of having her out of office.
“Is this Senate impotent to act? Can we allow this crisis to continue and allow devolution to collapse in the hands of one person? We have to say no to this machination,” said Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi.
He added: “If nothing is going to happen, we must quickly bring a motion of no confidence against Sarah Serem and send a strong delegation to the President and have the process of removing her from office initiated”.
Kiraitu said that Serem was keen on killing devolution.
“I know some mandarins in the Executive are hell bent on ensuring devolution does not work. Some of these measures are being chanelled through these commissions. Let us not be deceived that these commissions are independent, they are propagating the severe case of impunity,” added Kiraitu.
