Three people, including a four-year-old child who was knocked down by a vehicle, died in separate incidents in Njombe Region, over the weekend.
The Njombe Regional Police Commander (RPC), Furgence Ngonyani, said that the first incident occurred when a Land Rover with registration numbers MT 121 belonging to the prisons’ department knocked down the child, Castor Mahenge, when he was crossing the road at Ndulamo Village, Makete District in Njombe Region.
RPC Ngonyani told the ‘Daily News’ over the phone on Tuesday that the driver of the vehicle with registration number A5941 SSGT was Abdallah Rajab Maganga (48), a prisons officer in Njombe District.
The deceased’s body was taken to Makete District Hospital for preservation while the police are investigating the matter as the driver of the vehicle was arrested pending investigations.
RPC Ngonyani also confirmed the death of a motorcyclist, Meshack Muwuka (26), a farmer and a resident of Liuja Village in Wanging’ombe District. He said that the death occurred when the rider of a T Better with registration number T 301 BTC motorcycle lost control before smashing onto a hut, dying on the spot in Korinto Village, Wanging’ombe District, in Njombe Region.
The RPC further said that the body of the deceased had been taken by family members for burial and no one was arrested in connection with the accident. In another development, an old man identified as Ambrose Chatanda (88,) a farmer and a resident of Liwengi Village was found dead by the roadside in Liwengi Village, Njombe District .
“The body of the deceased had some injuries on one side,” said Ngonyani. He said that after investigations the police arrested two people suspected to have been involved in the murder. He mentioned the names of the suspects as Daniel Kitanda (29) and Elerueelih Chatanda (40) both residents of Liwengi Village.
RPC said that the murder was caused by superstition beliefs. Meanwhile, two people died on Monday in Dar es Salaam including a nursery school boy who accidentally hanged himself while playing at Mwananyamala Bwawani area in Kinondoni Municipality.
The Kinondoni Regional Police Commander (RPC), Camilius Wambura, said in the city on Tuesday that a nursery schoolboy named Abdallah Ally (5) and a resident of Mwanayamala Bwawani area accidentally hanged himself.
