Serengeti Boys drawn with South Africa in qualifiers


The national Under-17 soccer team, Serengeti Boys has been drawn against South Africa in the second round of the African Youth Championship (AYC) qualifiers.

According to a statement released by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Information Officer, Boniface Wambura said on Friday that the first leg match will be held in Dar es Salaam from either July 18, 19 or 20, this year. The return leg encounter will be held in South Africa two weeks later.

Wambura said that if they manage to go past South Africa hurdle, Serengeti Boys will match into the third round and face winner of the match between Egypt/ Sudan vs Congo Brazzaville.

Other countries that will start their campaign in the second round include Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tunisia and Zambia.

Wambura said that TFF will soon name the technical bench that will be in-charge of the team.

Meanwhile, Jamal Malinzi leadership at the TFF helm will reach 100 days on Tuesday. Malinzi was elected the federation president on October 28, last year.


Wambura said on Friday, the president will call a press conference to enlighten the public what his leadership has so far achieved in implementing their election manifesto.

In another development, the Premier League Board (TPLB) has disbursed 1.5m/- to each First Division League (FDL) teams, to prepare for the league.

The teams are African Lyon, Burkina Moro, Friends Rangers, Green Warriors, Kanembwa JKT, Kimondo, Kurugenzi Mafinga, Lipuli, Majimaji, Mkamba Rangers, Mlale JKT and Mwadui.

Others are Ndanda, Pamba, Polisi Dar es Salaam, Polisi Dodoma, Polisi Mara, Polisi Morogoro, Polisi Tabora, Stand United, Tessema, Toto Africans, Trans Camp and Villa Squad.
