He gave the reassurance during a meeting with Save-the-Children officials who paid him a courtesy call at State House. “We have been doing all that we can to protect children.

In addition to awareness campaigns on children rights, we have been strengthening our laws. Most of our development programmes include child protection,” said Dr Shein.

In a statement issued by Zanzibar State House Press Officer, Mr Said Ameir, the Save-the-Children delegation led by the resident director Mr Steve Thorne was impressed with efforts being taken by Zanzibar in protecting children.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Oman Consul General to Zanzibar, Sheikh Saleh Al-Hafidh paid a farewell courtesy call on First Vice President Mr Seif Sharif Hamad with a call for stronger relations. Mr Hamad used the opportunity to thank the Oman government for the contribution to Zanzibar’s development initiatives.

He said that owing to the good work the diplomat has been doing in the Islands, ties between the two countries have grown stronger. “We have been gaining a lot from Oman.

We ask you to remain our ambassador abroad so that more visitors and tourists from Oman can come to Zanzibar,” said Mr Hamad, extending thanks to Sultan Qaboos of Oman for supporting Zanzibar.

He said Oman’s support in developing the economy and education was important for the people of Zanzibar and “our relations should continue for the benefit of the citizens of both Zanzibar and Oman.”

Sheikh Al-Hafidh said Zanzibar still has many attractive historical sites to visit and good environment for investors and promised that “Oman will continue working closely with Zanzibar.”
