Two others were rushed to Longisa district hospital in critical condition where doctors said they had sustained multiple injuries.

The accident occurred at the Olbobo junction near Mulot Trading Centre along the Bomet-Narok highway.

The saloon vehicle said to have ran short of fuel was rammed into from behind by ‘The Guardian’ bus killing six on the spot among them two men who were pushing it.

The dead were five men and a woman while a child who was travelling in the ill-fated vehicle survived and is admitted at Longisa District Hospital.

None of the passengers aboard the bus was injured.

Eye witnesses said the driver of the bus was trying to overtake the saloon but was blocked by an oncoming lorry.

“The bus swerved back to its lane but because it was speeding, it rammed into the saloon car and pushed it for several metres,” said Vincent Koech, an eye witness.

The Standard found five of the bodies trapped in the wreck while the other bodies were lying beside the saloon vehicle as members of the public used axes and saws to extract the trapped bodies.

The accident caused traffic jam for the good part of Sunday afternoon as curious onlookers flocked the scene.

Police had a hectic time trying to control the traffic jam that stretched for several kilometres as many were traveling back to Nairobi from Western Kenya.

The two vehicles were towed to Bomet Police station while the bodies of the dead bodies were moved to Longisa District Hospital mortuary.
