Snooker youngster Yusufali sets up Tango final


Youngster Abbas Yusufali followed Joseph Tango in the Division B of Alubond Africa October Snooker Mug final.The debutant will now have to face Tango resistance in the Sunday’s final after seeing off Sajjad Salebhai by a 2-0 victory in the semi-final match played on Thursday night at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC).

It was an easy ride for Yusufali, who has shown his strength at this month’s event. The match was earlier scheduled for Tuesday before it was pushed forward for various reasons.

Before the Sajjad showdown, Yusufali also ousted Arun Pattan by 2-1 victory in the exciting match early this week.

Tango, who is in sparkling form this month was first one to book his place into this month’s final on Tuesday and has expressed his desire to win first snooker title. He saw off Captain Firoz Yusufali by a 2-0 victory in the first semi final match.

Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Vice-Chairman, Tango took the first frame with 67-31 points, before forcing the captain to surrender early in the second frame as Tango posted a 59-26 points with all several colour balls remaining.


Basing of the current form of both players, fans expect a mouthwatering clash on Sunday.In Division A, defending champion Akil Akberali campaign to add a second consecutive monthly mug title went well as he secured a semi-final spot after 2-1 victory against August champion, Manish Khattar.

This is the second time that Akberali emerged victorious against Khattar after also doing so at last month’s event and went on to win the title for the first time. He is hoping to repeat that feat this month.

Akberali was in action again last night facing veteran Raju Kanabar, who went through after pulling a 2-1victory over Nikhil Sangani in another quarter-final tie on Thursday.

Kanabar will enter the battle trying to force his place into the final as he searches for his first title this year.
