The Solicitor General has advised the Police and Registrar of titles to assist Charles Muhangi access his land. This comes a few days after the takeover of the Baganda Bus Park (Qualicel Bus Terminal) by Horizon Bus Company, which is owned by former rally champion Charles Muhangi.
In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police and copied to the Minister of Lands and the State Minister for Housing, the Solicitor General said plot 43/47 Nakivubo Road was fraudulently transferred to Drake Lubega.
“It has been found out that Charles Muhangi is the rightful owner of the disputed land and he should be reinstated on both the titles and land,” read a statement from the Solicitor General’s office.
The Solicitor General added: “Regardless of the fact that findings show that the plot was fraudulently transferred to Lubega, the lease for plot 50-52 Nakivubo Road, in the name of Drake Lubega, has expired and, thus, he has no legal interest on the land.”
Muhangi, who acquired the plot in 2005, said he was evicted from it in February 2006 by city businessman Lubega, using what he called forged papers and tittle.
However, Lubega insisted that he, too, had titles to prove ownership of the plot.
“All the tricks Lubega has been using have come to an end with the directive of the Solicitor General. It will be unwise of him to continue using the same documents to pursue ownership of the land,” said Muhangi
If Muhangi produces the said titles as instructed by the Solicitor General, he is likely take over all the structures constructed on this land and be compensated for the loss of income in the seven years he has not been using the land.
