South Carolina man lowers dog off balcony ‘for a toilet break’

A 23-year-old man from South Carolina has been charged after photographs were taken of him allegedly dangling his parents’ dog off a balcony.

Horror: Tyler Smith has been charged after a photo showed his father’s dog being lowered out a window

Tyler Smith of Greenville faces fined of up to $1,000 and could be jailed for 30 days if found guilty of violating animal care laws.

A photograph was circulated online over the weekend, showing what appeared to be a dog being hoisted out of a second-storey apartment.

Greenville police received several calls over the weekend by concerned members of the public saying they had seen the dog hanging from its leash.

‘Saturday it was raining really hard during that time period and we believe he was doing it to let it use the bathroom.’ Officer Jonathan Bragg told ABC News.

Smith was looking after the dog, which belongs to his parents, while they were out of town.

Animal control visited the apartment on Sunday, and on Monday he was charged with violating Greenville’s Animal-Care Ordinance.

The dog, which was allegedly being lowered to the ground using a harness and leash, was not injured.

Smith’s father told News 13 he was appalled by his son’s actions and in no way condoned what his son had done.
