Special Zone Police net six suspect criminals


Police in Dar es Salaam Special Zone have arrested six suspected thugs in possession of five firearms, following a special operation conducted in the city recently.

Dar es Salaam Special Zone Commissioner Police Suleiman Kova told journalists in Dar es Salaam on Friday that police are currently holding one Yasin Abas alias Kihijo (32) and Mzamilo Iddi (24) for allegedly possessing a browning patent gun with registration number FAZ 73 6089 and nine rounds of ammunition.

“The arrest was conducted on Sunday last week, few hours after they were about to leave a stationery which also provides mobile money transfer services at Magomeni area in Kinondoni municipality,” Mr Kova said.

According to Mr Kova, the suspects threatened the shopkeeper Dorin Machanga (29) and commanded her to sit down before they stole the money amounting to 2.3m/- , and a Nokia mobile phone handset. During the interrogation, one of the suspects confessed that a handgun was among the things he had stolen recently at Ubungo Bus Terminal.

“The suspects are still in custody for interrogation before they are taken to the court once the police are through with investigation,” he said. Meanwhile, police have arrested three suspected bandits at Gerezani in procession of a handgun with registration number B 138627 and eleven rounds of ammunition.


He mentioned the suspects as Kwai Rueben (20), Michael Joram alias Barnabas (28) and Daniel Msiga (42), all residents of Dar es Salaam. The suspects were also found with a tricycle Bajaj with registration number T 960 BTG.

“When searched by police, one of the suspects was found in possession of one round of ammunition, a bag which contained women clothes, a pair of shoes, a pair of black gloves, and a woman’s jacket,” said Kova.

The suspects confessed to have used the women’s clothes in their robbery missions. Mr Kova also said that police are holding one Muumin Bukuza (29), a resident of Sharifu Shamba in Ilala municipality for allegedly possessing military uniforms. The suspect was arrested at Sharrif Shamba area.

“I cautioned the general public to stop using military and police uniforms by any means,” said Mr Kova.
