Hussein Zavary maintains his winning form, in the January Snooker Mug tournament, at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC), on Tuesday night.
With this feat the youngster recorded another 2-0 victory against Rupesh Soni in the Division B match. However, Zavary, was forced to surrender his win because he expects to return back to South Africa to resume his studies today.
He had returned to snooker competition over the weekend, for the first time since he had won the Division B title last May. Then he defeated veteran Kishore Ramanuj in 2-0 frames.
Snooker Captain Firoz Yusufali said: “Zavery won his match against Soni but he gave it to his opponent because of his absent in the city from tomorrow (today)”.
Zavary’s father, Iqbal Zavery, also confirmed to this paper that his son expects to fly back to South Africa for further studies, at Cape Town University.
Soni, who won the monthly mug title, March last year, will now have to think again if he has any desire to secure the title after several months seatback.
In another match, October last year’s, youthful champion, Abbas Yusufali, also turned in an outstanding performance to kill-off Joseph Tango’s dream to go for second consecutive final with a 2-0 victory.
It was a rematch between them, as the two met at last October’s final, in which Yusufali, who played his first tournament recording a 2-0 victory over Tango, was also playing his first final.
Tango said : “It was a tough match for me. My body could not respond well and Yusufali deserves to win.” In another match, Abraham Sykes and Aliakberali Hakim went through at the expense of Nawaz Ladha and Eddi.
Captain Yusufali, who got a walk-over after his opponent, Siten Borkhataria failed to show-up for their clash over the weekend, was in action last night against Hozefa Hassan. The 11-day event, sponsored by R & K Tracking Ltd, will reach its climax this coming Sunday.
