Yakan helps ES Setif to win Algerian Super Cup

Rwandan international player, Lawrence Yakan Guma on Friday night helped his Algeria first division side L’Etoile Sportif de Setif to win the first trophy of the season, the Super Cup. L’Etoile de Setif easily beat their rivals Oilers GSP 3-0, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-16. The Super Cup is the curtain-raiser to the 2013/14 season, which is scheduled to kick off next weekend. This is ES Setif’s third title after they won the Algerian league in 2010 and the Algerian Cup early this year. “I am a happy man, but this is just the start, I need to give everything to win more with this team and I hope I will continue to perform well,” Guma told Times Sport by e-mail. He added, “The season starts next weekend, and with this win over the league champions, we hope it gives more belief that we can actually win the league.” Guma will be part of the national team which will play in the Zone 5 World Championship Qualifiers tournament due to be held in Kigali from November 25 to December 1. Mukunzi joins Algerian club El Fanar

Senior volleyball national team skipper Christophe Mukunzi has joined Algeria first division club El Fanar, he officially joined his new team on Monday despite a one-year contract last month. The 26-year-old returns to the Algerian league for a second spell after spending last season with Qatari first division league side, Al-Arabi Sports Club. He spent two seasons at another Algerian side Blida Volleyball Club before moving to Qatar last season. Mukunzi has been a regular on the national team for the last couple of years and his move will be a big boost for Paul Bitok’s side, which will soon start preparing for the Zone V World championships qualifiers slated for November in Kigali. Rwanda’s other professional players include; Lawrence Yakan Guma (Etoile Sportive de Setif-Algeria) and Placide ‘Madison’ Sibomana (Al-Arabi Sports Club –Qatar). Mukunzi signs for Algerian club El Fanar

Senior volleyball national team skipper Christophe Mukunzi has signed a two-year renewable contract with Algeria Volleyball first division El Fanar. Mukunzi returns to Algeria after spending two seasons in Qatar. According to the outgoing volleyball federation technical director, Gertrude Kubwimana, the 26-year old joins his compatriot Pierre Marshal Kwizera, who joined the club last week. Mukunzi moved from Qatari first division league side Al-Arabi Sports Club. He returns to the Algerian league for a second spell having featured for Blida Volleyball Club two years ago. He is expected to join his new club this month before the Algerian league resumes on October 15. Mukunzi and Kwizera have been regulars for the Rwandan national team and the professional moves will be a big boost for Paul Bitok’s side, which will soon start preparing for the Zone V World championships qualifiers slated for November in Kigali. Rwanda’s other professional players include; Placide ‘Madison’ Sibomana (Al-Arabi Sports Club –Qatar), Lawrence Yakan Guma (Etoile Sportive de Setif-Algeria) and Vincent Dusabimana aka Gasongo (An-Aghallfa Sports Club-Qatar). Meanwhile, Rwanda Volleyball Federation boss Gustave Nkurunziza has made changes in his administration, with Christian Hatuminama and Gertrude Kubwimana swapping roles to become technical director and executive secretary, respectively. Kwizera signs for Algeria V-ball club El Fanar

RWANDA Volleyball team international player Pierre Kwizera Marshal has signed a two-year renewable contract with Algeria Volleyball first division El Fanar. Kwizera has been featuring for national league club Kibungo Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education. He has previously played for Al Mihlia and is expected to join his new club next month before the Algerian league gets underway on October 15. Kwizera told Times Sport yesterday, “It is true, I have signed for first division team in Algeria and I hope it will boost my level of playing volleyball. Playing against elite volleyball players in Algeria will also improve my personal career,” He has been a regular in the national team and the professional move will be a big boost for Paul Bitok’s side, which will soon start preparing for the Zone V World championships qualifiers slated for November in Kigali. Kwizera joins other Rwandan professional players including national team skipper Christophe Mukunzi Giba and Placide ‘Madison’ Sibomana (Al-Arabi Sports Club –Qatar), Lawrence Yakan Guma (Etoile Sportive de Setif-Algeria) and Vincent Dusabimana aka Gasongo (An-Aghallfa Sports Club-Qatar).
