Azam ‘pip’ Simba as top flight club

Azam closed the year 2013 as the top club in the country ahead of second placed Simba as Mainland champions Young Africans again failed to make a cut in the continental football club ranking. Azam FC The so highly-ranked Dar es Salaam team is joined by former champions Simba as the only Tanzanian clubs to be listed in the 392-team ranking table as of December 31, 2013. According to the latest rankings, Azam, who reached the second round of CAF Confederation Cup last year, finished the calendar year as Tanzania’s top side on 1248.69 points. Simba, who alongside Yanga are the oldest clubs in the country, remain the secondbest ranked team with 1247.48 points despite missing out on top two slots in the domestic league. TP Mazembe of DR Congo lead the chart with 1621.44, followed by Tunisia’s ES Tunis and Al Merreikh of Sudan in second and third place.
