TANAPA to donate iron sheets to Tarime council

The Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) will donate thousands of iron sheets to Tarime District Council any time from now. TANAPA’s Outreach Programme Manager, Mr Ahmed Mbugi has confirmed that plans are underway to hand over the iron sheets. “We are now verifying how the iron sheets will be used.

For example, we want to know if they are going to support development of schools; it is important to know how many schools will benefit,” Mr Mbugi told the ‘Daily News’.

The official handover of the iron sheets will immediately take place after the verification excise, according to him. He did not mention the exact number of iron sheets but said they are many. Tarime officials have welcomed the donation of iron sheets, saying that they will be directed to education and health projects.

“The iron sheets will help us to complete many projects in public schools and health facilities,” Tarime District Council Chairman, Mr Amos Sagara said, before hinting that they anticipate to receive around 6,000 iron sheets from TANAPA.

Tarime is one of Mara Region districts with some villages bordering the world heritage sites of Serengeti National Park (SENAPA).

Other districts of Mara with some villages bordering the world’s famous park are Serengeti and Bunda. The donation is part of TANAPA’s continued initiatives meant to make local people living near the country’s national parks benefit from conservation and tourism sectors. Such efforts make people realise the importance of conserving game protected areas in the country.
