The Resident Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Mr Amin Kurji, received France’s highest decoration, on Tuesday evening.
Formal procedure took place at the French Embassy here in Dar es Salaam, when Ambassador Marcel Escure, bestowed Kurji the award on behalf of French President Francois Hollande.
Ambassador Escure told the gathering that the “French National Order of the Legion of Honour” was established way back in 1801, by the late Napoleon Bonaparte.
He also said that one of the reasons why Kurji had been given the honour was for his outstanding achievements and the eminent services.
According to the ambassador, Mr Kurji has contributed to the promotion of French culture, education and arts between the two countries. “This, of course, is a happy opportunity to recognise a person, who is a wise, accomplished and successful man.
His leadership and commitment we all appreciate. “This order is to pay tribute to your development network, which working as a team among its many branches, has already achieved a great deal in Tanzania, as well as in many other countries,” Ambassador Escure said.
He reminded the gathering of France being a key partner for development in Africa, which they acknowledge, as the first source of bilateral official development assistance to the continent.
In this regards the French people and government, he maintains, value highly the contribution to development the AKDN and its branches has made.
