The Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) celebrated this year’s Farmers Day ‘Nane Nane’ with the launch of Junior Golf Development Programme.
The running project is geared to support training to underprivileged young stars who would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience the game of golf. TGU Vice-President Joseph Tango told members of the press at the TPDF Lugalo Golf Course that about 12 golf kits will be distributed to the nine golf clubs affiliated to the TGU.
Tango named the clubs as TPDF Lugalo Golf Club, Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club, Arusha Gymkhana Club, Kilombero Golf Club, Missenyi Golf Club, Mufindi Golf Club, Moshi Gymkhana, Morogoro Gymkhana and TPC Golf Club.
He noted: “TGU is committed to supporting programmes that foster the exposure of the game of golf and its inherent values of integrity, sportsmanship and self discipline to young underprivileged Tanzanian youth.
“In our quest to unearth golf talents, TGU is planning to initiate a Junior Golf Academy that will provide learning opportunities for beginners, with special focus on underprivileged kids,” Tango said.
The launch comes just on time as Tanzania golf prepares for a debut at the much anticipated inauguration of East African Zone V slated for the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort in Naivasha, Kenya.
