A Nigerian and a Kenyan women have been sentenced to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of trafficking in drugs worth Sh289 million.
Edigin Vivian from Nigeria and Josephine Mumbi Waithera from Kenya were convicted of trafficking through Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).
Justice Aishiel Sumari said both the accused had fifteen capsules filled with cocaine in their luggage and swallowed 48 more.
The women said life had become tough for them and their children and so carried the drugs.
Waithera was arrested on November 27, 2012, with 3,249.82 grams of heroin that carries a street value of Sh146.2 million. She was coming from Vienna, Austria.
Similarly, Tanzanian Hamis Suya was sentenced for life imprisonment after being arrested with 3,191.3 grams of heroin that is worth Sh143 million.
She had 249 pellets of heroin while traveling from Tanga to Arusha by bus in November 2012.
