Tanzania ready to participate in African Boxing Championships

Tanzania will participate in this year’s African Boxing Championships slated for September 1-7 in Port Louis, Mauritius. Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) Secretary General Makore Mashaga told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam that they confirmed their participation to the host country and the African Boxing Federation.

“I would like to confirm that BFT will send a team to Mauritius for the continental meet that will take place in early September,” he said. Mashaga added that if all goes well Tanzania will be represented by 10 boxers, two coaches and an official.

He appealed to companies and individuals to come forward and assist the federation to make its dream come true. Mashaga said 16 boxers resumed a two-month residential training at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday, after taking part in the just-ended East Africa Inter-Cities Boxing Championships in Mwanza.

“The national boxing team preparations ahead of the African Boxing Championships are in top gear. The boxers resume training camp in Dar es Salaam today (yesterday),” he said. “The boxers are in good shape and are under national coach Remy Ngabo,” he added.

Ngabo will be assisted by Juma Selemani, Said ‘Gogo Poa’ Omary, Hassan Mzonge and Yomba Yomba David (Ngome), Benjamin Mwangata (JKT), Edward Lyakwipa (Sifa), Akaroli Godfrey (Urafiki), Musa Malisori (Prisons) and Mohamed Shabani (Police).

He said that all boxers are in good shape ready for a twomonth camp although they are still facing financial constraint. The boxers in camp are Maximilian Patrick (JKT) — +91kg; Haruna Swaga (Ngome) – 91kg; Ibrahim Tamba (Ngome) – 75kg; Selemani Kidunda (Ngome), Abdu Rashid and Gurashidi Rashidi (JKT) – 69kg.

Others are Hashim Simon (Ngome) and Victor Njaiti (JKT) – 64kg; Ismail Italiano (JKT) and Iddi Pialali (Sifa) – 60kg; Elias Damson and Twalib Athuman (JKT) – 56kg; 52kg- Hamdani Issa (JKT) and Hamadi Furahisha (Davies Corner) – 52kg; Saif Hofu and Christian John (JKT) — 49kg.
