Tanzania has lately pulled out from hosting of the two-week CECAFA Kagame Cup citing a busy international schedule. This has led Rwanda to cancel hosting the 41st edition of the cup expected to be held from June 18 to July 2.
According to CECAFA Secretary General Nicolas Musonyi they are working on a new host nation and it may be announced before Sunday.
Musonyi said alternative country that can host the 41st edition of CECAFA Kagame Cup is being searched in the region and probably on Friday or on Saturday they shall announce the name.
Meanwhile, the FERWAFA officials said they have not been yet requested to host the cup and also it is too soon for them to host it.
FERWAFA acting Secretary General Felicite Rwemalika added the CECAFA has not asked Rwanda to host the event and they are also aware Tanzania will not be hosting the year’s tournament.
Rwemalika further said if request to host the event comes to them, they will surely respond to it but they are not sure if it can be staged in the coming days.
Rwanda has earlier hosted the tournament four times – 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2010.
