The 2017 will be a challenging year for Tanzanians amid promises of growth and good living by President John Magufuli. Economists suggest people must live within their means and if failed navigating henceforth will be difficult as it was in 2016.
Political scientists keep their views saying much of the hardships last year were caused by measures within the government like robustly collecting money from internal sources.
Professor Haji Semboja of the University of Dar es Salaam said the hardship experienced by Tanzanians has nothing to do with the new government’s making.
He added, “We must change. Some of us lacked discipline in financial matters.”
The professor further mentioned most of the people face life hardships due to failure to live within their means.
The real economic hardship is the result of global phenomenon as most of the world economies have been lately shaking. Tanzania has been building institutions and systems for past two decades but those are still not effective. The new government has vowed to make those effective and now most of the people are finding difficulties in adjusting accordingly.
Pro Semboja said ordinary people should not worry about the new policies of the Magufuli government as now the country is moving away from the phase that relied mostly on foreign aids for development to a self-reliance system.
He also challenged the Magufuli government to empower the youth to make them engage in activities and this will lead to development.
He said further the new government is trying to make state-owned companies to compete with private companies too.
