Minister for Communication, Science and Technology, Prof Makame Mbarawa urged Tanzanians to make good use of the National ICT Broad Band Backbone (NICTBB), in a bid to speed up national development.

He called for the safeguarding of the NICTBB network describing the National Fibre Optic Cable as great resource with powerful communication technology.
“This cable does not contain copper. It is only for communication purpose. And even if you take it, it is useless and instead will affect your eyes,” Prof Mbarawa told reporters while holding samples of NICTBB fibres after inspecting NICTBB at Sirari border station, which supplies the NICTBB services to the neighbouring Kenya.
He directed the Tanzania Telecommunication Company Limited (TTCL) to educate citizens on the importance of safeguarding NICTBB infrastructure. “We need to educate citizens to take care of this important and powerful technology,’ the minister insisted.
Prof Mbarawa said the NICTBB is paramount as far as connectivity of the services is concerned in some of the neighbouring countries. Minister Mbarawa was in Mara Region for a one-day working tour aimed at improving performance of TTCL and postal services in the lake zone region.
The minister said he has already visited Tanga and Arusha regions. After touring Mara he proceeded to Mwanza and Kagera regions.
on Saturday morning he took time to listen to TTCL and Tanzania Postal Corporation (TPC) workers in Mara on what can be done to improve telecommunication and postal services in the area. The minister was accompanied by senior TTCL officials based in Mara and Mwanza regions, among others.
