Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee member Leodegar Tenga is in Cairo attending a symposium for the analysis of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations (Gabon and Equatorial Guinea 2012 and South Africa 2013) which opened in the Egyptian capital on Saturday.
The symposium is organised by CAF with a number of coaches who participated with their teams in the two editions of the continental top soccer showpiece attending.
CAF deputy secretary general Essam Ahmed spoke about the aim of the symposium before CAF vice- president Suketu Patel opened it in the presence of Jurg Nepfer from FIFA and Tenga, who is also the president of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).
The symposium comes as CAF continues its efforts to spread and develop football in the continent on all aspects.
Patel assured the attendants that CAF not only works on the development of infrastructure and stadia, but also on technical development by holding such a symposium to allow the continent’s national teams managers to exchange their experience of the continent’s most prestigious showpiece.
He asked CAF member associations’ technical directors to hold similar symposiums in their respective countries to spread the word of the symposium.
He also asked national teams managers and technical directors to work as one team in the benefit of African football. Speakers in the symposium are Abdul Monaem Hussein (Shatta) CAF director of development, Mallouche Belhassan, member of CAF football committee, Mohamed Abdullah Mazda and Ben Koffi, CAF football committee members.
Among the coaches present are Stephen Keshi, manager of Nigeria Orange CAN 2013 champions, Herve Renard manager of Zambia Orange CAN 2012 Champions, and Paul But manager of Burkina Faso who, against all odds, reached Orange CAN 2013 final and ended as runners- up. Egypt, who missed the past two editions, is represented by national team manager Bob Bradley.
Keshi expressed his pleasure by attending such a symposium and said he was happy to be in Cairo with the elite managers of the continent to discuss the previous editions of CAN.
Renard also said he was happy to be in such an event and that he would like to see more of these meetings to exchange his experience with other managers in the continent.
The three-day symposium concludes today with a press conference to be graced by FIFA coach of the Year 2012, Vicente Del Bosque, who is manager of EURO 2012 and FIFA World Cup 2010 Champions Spain.
