About ten people have been killed and several others injured at Olale area, Odha location in Marsabit County following fighting by rival militias.
Marsabit County Commissioner Isaih Nakoru said heavily armed militias from different communities clashed in the morning until late in the afternoon.
He said armed men from Borana communities and those of Gabra and Burji on one side had a fierce fire exchange that lasted for hours.
Mr Nakoru said the security arm of the government could not be able to establish the exact number of those killed in the incident but estimated it to be between ten and twelve from both sides of the rival communities.
“Its difficult to establish the exact number of those killed because the militias escaped with their victims and those killed from the scene of the incident,” said the Commissioner. He confirmed that those killed and injured were all men.
Tension remains high in Marsabit County with both communities fleeing their home for fear of revenge attacks. The Kenya Red Cross has said it has so far evacuated ten injured people to Moyale where they have been admitted to various hospitals.
