ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, August 27, 2013 – The African Union (AU) High-Level Panel for Egypt will undertake a mission to Egypt from 28 August to 3 September 2013, in pursuance of the relevant pronouncements of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) on the situation in Egypt.
This mission is part of the AU’s efforts, on the basis of its relevant instruments, to assist Egypt in overcoming the challenges confronting it, in the spirit of African solidarity and the search for African solutions to African problems. During its visit, the Panel intends to meet with the highest Egyptian interim authorities, as well as with other stakeholders.
The AU High-Level Panel for Egypt was appointed by the Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, on 8 July 2013. It held its inaugural meeting in Addis Ababa on 16 July 2013, and undertook its first visit to Egypt from 27 July to 4 August 2013.
