Three People in Tanzania Accused of Stealing Properties Worth 5 Billion

Three people in Tanzania today are facing the possibilities of being prosecuted and punished to the extent o f the law after being accused of stealing properties, even including toys that are worth more or less five billion. The suspects were advocate Sarah Masamu and two other members of the family namely Kazim Karmal and Shabbar Kermal. They all have appeared in the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam where they were accused of breaking into a house and taking away a lot of things with a cumulative value of around 5 billion.

The three suspects strongly denied what they call were false allegations before the Principal Magistrate Waliarwande Lerma. Because of failure to be prosecuted immediately, the suspects were given the chance to bail themselves through the conditions of having twp sureties. All of them were required to ink a bond that amounts to not less than 50 million.

Furthermore, the suspects were ordered by the magistrate to surrender a title deed for an immovable property that corresponds to the supposed amount of their bail bond. They were also asked to surrender for court travel documents. All of the three suspects are now not allowed to travel outside the city without getting court permission. The Magistrate ordered that the case will be set for mention on the 25th of August as investigations are still going on.
Senior State Attorney Subira Sinda of the prosecution earlier have given a request to the court to invoke section 148 (5) of the Criminal Procedure Act in order to set higher bail conditions because of the fact that the suspects were accused of stealing properties with extremely big amount.

A lot of people, including the families of the three accused are now waiting for the hearing of the case and the possible results of it. Meanwhile, the suspects continuously deny any of the accusations to them and stand by their claim that they are all innocent and this might be just an act to bring disgrace to their family and dishonor them.
They told they did not break into someone’s house and they did not take away what is being told to have been stolen by them.
