Two people have died in separate incidents in Singida, including a three-year old child, who was attacked by bees, police have reported.
Singida Regional Police Commander (RPC) Geofrey Kamwela identified the toddler yesterday as Japhet Mahenda, a resident of Ighombwe village in Singida East constituency.
The incident occurred on May 11 as the deceased was playing with his fellow children when they started killing a few bees at the spot where they were playing. This provoked the remaining bees who came out of their hive and started attacking the children, all of whom managed to flee to safety except Japhet who suffered numerous stings until he lost conscious.
“Japhet was attacked and became unconscious, he died when he was receiving treatment at the Ighombwe village dispensary,” the RPC said. In another incident, a peasant and resident of Utahao village in Ikungi District, identified as Ramadhani Shabani (49), died after being hit by a vehicle along the Singida-Dodoma Highway. The police are searching for the driver and the vehicle.
