Top runners set for Kili Marathon

Top Tanzanian professional athletes have confirmed their participation in the Kilimanjaro Marathon scheduled for 3rd March 2013 in Moshi.

According to Kilimanjaro Marathon Race Director, John Bayo, marathon super stars like Patrick Nyangero, Andrea Silvini, Fabian Joseph, Sarah Ramadhan, Mary Naali and Banuelia Brighton will join a host of local and international competitors.

A quintet of Masumbuko, Nyangero, Getuli Bayo, FaustineMusa and Silvini will compete in full marathon male Category, while Brighton, William, Sumawe make up the female category full marathon. Fabian Joseph, Dickson Marwa, Uwezo Lukinga, Damina Chopa and Mohammed Dulle have registered for half marathon, male category.

Meanwhile, Sarah Ramadhani, Jacqueline Sakilu, Mary Naali will compete in half marathon, female category. Nyangero will be looking to go a step further and win this year’s full marathon race having finished runnerup in the 2009 edition, clocking 02:15:35.

Nyangero boasts a wealth of experience after participating in a string of other competitions including the Gold Coast Marathon, 5000 Melbourne 2005 World Championship, and went on to win the 2010 Nagpur Marathon in India. Another local athlete to forward to is Silvini, winner of the 2007 Kilimanjaro Marathon.

Silvini went on to win the Pune Marathon in 2008 and was third in the 2008 Kilimanjaro Marathon finishing the race with 02:16:22. The eyes of athletics enthusiasts will also be on Brighton, who won the female category in 2008, clocking 02:48:37. She is also the winner of 2009 Kigali Marathon.

Another top runner is to light up the 2013 edition is Fabian Joseph who is on record as having won in the Half Marathon in Kilimanjaro Marathon 2010 where he finished in one hour, three minutes and 59 seconds (1:03:59), thereby managing to beat a record set by fellow countryman Damian Chopa, who won the race in 2008 in a record time of 1:04.43.

Chopa, who also won the World Half Marathon in Edmonton, Canada in 2005 when he clocked 1:01:08, will be looking to repeat his 2008 heroics. Naali, winner of the 2010 Vienna Half Marathon, Sarah Marja Ramadhan who finished the Kilimanjaro Marathon 2012 at the 11th place and clocked 2:51.00 in the women full marathon are both expected to provide strong opposition in the half marathon event.
