Transport Principal Secretary Nduva Muli to face House team over rail saga

Transport Principal Secretary Nduva Muli returns to Parliament this morning to face the Public Investment Committee (PIC) over the controversial multi-billion shilling Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

Muli has been invited, this time in his capacity as the former managing director of Kenya Railway, to shed more light on the tendering process of the project whose exact cost is subject to a probe.

Yesterday, Nduva’s predecessor in the ministry, Cyrus Njiru, failed to turn up before the Adan Keynan-led team, forcing the chairman to order the clerk to invite him to appear next week.

The MPs are also seeking to question the management of Kenya Railways after they invited the board of directors, the tender committee and the technical evaluation committee that oversaw the SGR contract.

Keynan also announced that the committee had invited the registrar of companies to help unearth the mystery of the owners of the China Road and Bridge Corporation that was awarded the tender.

This came even as Aldai MP Cornelius Serem introduced a new twist, saying the actual contract that the Government signed with the Chinese company was not according to SGR.

“Mr Chairman, Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau may have misled this committee and the country as the actual contract design signed is not according to SGR but China Technical specifications,” Serem said.
