Few days ago the Intergovernmental Authority of Development had several meetings and consultations to combat violent extremism in the country and also in other eastern African countries. Japan government as well as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supported the endeavor.
UNDP representative Rosa Malango said such measures should be given top priority.
Malango added the combat against violent extremism need to be recognized at the local and national levels, but it also requires a regional response.
She further mentioned youths in Africa are vulnerable and they can be easily recruited by extremist groups if they are not informed properly. They need to be well informed and well educated to lead a good life even during the bad times.
