The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and its Constituent Colleges plan to publicise researches for the global academic consumption through modern technological advancements.
UDSM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Rwekaza Mukandala said in Dar es Salaam recently that while the college boasts of its research outputs that have of late been on steady increase, it now looks to utilise the technology in information and communication to publicise and raise impact of its researches across the world. Prof Mukandala was addressing over 1,200 first year students who have just started their academic journey at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE).
“As much as DUCE is dedicated to its output, it is also dedicated to being conducive. Already, measures are being put in place within our various academic units on our campuses towards this endeavour and I encourage you to inquire on how best you can make use of this technological milestone in you studies,” he said.
He said university rankings are used to measure their research impacts where the result output such as journal articles and other scholarly publications are a tangible result, as well as a primary means of communicating the results of scientific inquiry.
Prof Mukandala said as the new students arrive, DUCE has just completed the new building namely Teachers Professional Centre which houses science laboratories.
The laboratories, he said, will provide much needed learning experiences that will not only enrich science education, but will also prepare students to be well rounded science educators.
“I hope you will be able to use these facilities to contribute a lot to scientific advances that are yet to come and the incoming class, I urge you to understand what the university is and what it can do for you when you get out of here,” he said.
