Opposition party leaders have condemned what they termed as ‘police brutality’ meted out to them and their supporters whenever the Police break protests.

The leaders: Mugisha Muntu (FDC), John Ken Lukyamuzi (CP), Asuman Basalirwa (JEEMA) and Olara Otunnu at a joint press conference held at Uganda House on Tuesday slammed what they termed as the ‘militarization’ of the police to deny Ugandans their freedoms and rights.
A joint statement read by Muntu among other cases singled out a lawyer of the ousted Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who was manhandled by the Police as he attempted to access the City Hall chambers on Monday to deliver a court order stopping a council meeting over impeachment.
However, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi refuted the opposition’s claims.
“We are simply doing our work. Politicians should behave in a more professional way rather than blaming police,” Ssenkumbi said.
