Uganda President Reshuffles Security Bosses

Nairobi, Uganda: Uganda President Uhuru Kenyatta has reshuffles the country’s security bosses. He has nominated GSU commandant Joel Mboya Kitili to replace Ms Grace Kaindi as acting deputy inspector-general in charge of the Kenya Police Service.

Mr Kitili was appointed on March 20, 2014 for the commandant of the GSU.

Ms Kaindi has been nominated to ambassadorial position and the same has also been given to Mr Isaac Ochieng, head of the Karen-based centre.

The new director of the National Courtier Terrorism Centre is Mr Martin Kimani.

The president said in a press statement the reshuffling is in force with immediate effect.

Very recently the president also appointed Mr Kitli for the coordination of the national crackdown on alcohol.

Couple of months ago the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) asked Ms Kaindi for retirement on age grounds. The move of transition may be based on this resignation request.

Ms Kaindi first argued to serve until 2018, but later on July 13 NPSC stated she would serve as DIG for another three years when her term would end.

According to National Police Service Act, mandate of deputy inspector-general can be renewed for another term. However, it is subject to consideration of 60 yeras age limit.

Ms Kaindi holds master’s degree in international relations from University of Nairobi. She has also been awarded the master’s degree in risk, crisis and disaster management from University of Leicester in the UK.
