Uhuru orders top security chiefs to investigate Garissa Killings

NAIROBI, KENYA: Security chiefs are expected in Garissa on Saturday as part of investigations into the wanton killings that have rocked the North Eastern town since last year.

President Uhuru Kenyatta

On Thursday unknown number of hooded gunmen stormed Kwa Chege hotel off Jamia Mosque road in the town and opened fire at close range with AK 47 rifles, killing six on the spot.

President Uhuru on Friday expressed concern over the killings and ordered top security officers to visit the town to get to the bottom of the matter.

The President was concerned about the killings targeting innocent people including security officers.

“This must stop once and for all,” said the President. “Local leaders must support security agencies in the operation to weed the criminals,” he said.

It is expected that Iringo, Kimaiyo, Muhoro and Gichangi will get to the bottom of the matter and give direction and a full report to the President on Monday.
