Uhuru: State to remove regional trade barriers

KISUMU, NAIROBI: President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday reaffirmed his total commitment to working with all Kenyans irrespective of their political affiliations to unite the country and uplift their living standards.

Speaking during the funeral service for the late KNUT Secretary General David Okuta, the President also assured that he would be forming a National Government that reflects the true face of Kenya.

“Let me assure all Kenyans that l will work with all leaders including my brother Raila Odinga to unite the country and accelerate development,” said Uhuru.The Head of State noted that for tangible development to be realized in the country, Kenyans should forget differences that arose during the recent elections and forge ahead as Kenyans.

“Competitive politics is not enmity. Elections are over and lets work together to develop the country,” he said.

The President, once more, assured Kenyans that his government will be a government of the over 40 million citizens that ensures development in all corners of the country.

President Uhuru, at the same time, pledged to work with the neighbouring countries to remove colonial barriers that impede free movement of people and goods within the East African region.In his tribute to the late Okuta, the President eulogized him as a true patriot with a keen sense of duty to the country who always assessed keenly the implications of his demands on other Government financial commitments as he negotiated salary increments for teachers.

President Kenyatta described the late Okuta as a unionist who embraced objective dialogue and negotiations as he engaged the teachers’ employer on the teachers’ welfare.Saying teachers and the Government have a common destiny, the Head of State assured of a closer working relationship with their union for the interest of the nation at large.“We need one another. Let’s pull in the same direction for the benefit of all Kenyans,” the President told teachers.

Speaking during the occasion, immediate former Prime Minister Raila Odinga assured President Kenyatta that he is ready to work with his Government in order to move the country to the next level. He stressed the need of reconciliation among all Kenyans so as to realize meaningful development to every part of the country.In his tribute, Mr. Raila acknowledged the great contribution the late Okuta made in uplifting the welfare of the teaching fraternity in the country.On his part, the KNUT Chairman Mr. Wilson Sossion stressed the need for the Government to work harmoniously with the union in an effort to address the plight of teachers.
