President Yoweri Museveni has stressed that what Tooro, Uganda and Africa in general need is social and economic transformation that can be achieved by embracing modern commercial farming, alongside industrialization, services and ICT among others.
He said government has developed infrastructure like roads from Kampala to the border with DRC, and advised them to use for wealth creation.
The President was yesterday speaking as the chief Guest at the 18th coronation Anniversary of Rukiribasaija Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba-Iguru Rukindi the IV at Karuziika Place in Fortportal, Kabarole district.
The colorful ceremony was held under the theme “Youth and Development in Tooro Kingdom” and was attended by the Speaker of Parliament the Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, the African Queens who concluded their conference yesterday evening and cultural leaders from all regions in Uganda.
The President called on the youth in Toro kingdom and Uganda at large to be very active with a clear vision of creating wealth in their homes.
“Wealth creation must go along side with development. I am glad that the youth in Toro have resolved to transform themselves economically. I am glad that the youth are active, I hope you are active with a clear vision to create wealth in your homes, he said.
The President, who is also one of the care takers of the young King, congratulated King Oyo and the people of Tooro Kingdom upon reaching the 18th coronation anniversary. He also pledged for more support to cultural institutions as the economy improves.
King Oyo on his part strongly pledged to bring the youth of Tooro kingdom on board to eradicate poverty. He commended President Museveni for his love for him as a person and to the people of Tooro in general.
The Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom Mr. Stephen Kaliba also applauded the President for the great contribution and support he has accorded to the king and Tooro Kingdom.
