VP, dignitaries bid adieu to Uncle J. Nyaisangah


The Vice-President, Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal, was among leaders who paid their last respects to the late Julius Nyaisangah, alias Uncle J, at Leaders Club grounds on Tuesday.

The Vice-President Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal, pays his last respects to the late veteran radio and television announcer Julius Masyaga Nyaisangah, at Leaders Club grounds in Dar es Salaam, on Tuesday. Dr Bilal said the late Nyaisangah would be remembered not only for his journalistic prowess but also for his dedication to the profession and challenged journalists in the country to learn from his example.

The ceremony was attended by hundreds of people from all walks of life, including journalists, politicians and religious leaders. People who paid homage to the late Nyaisangah yesterday included Chadema national chairman, Mr Freeman Mbowe (on behalf of political parties); Editors Forum chairman, Mr Absalom Kibanda (on behalf of journalists) and MOAT chairman, Mr Reginald Mengi, on behalf of media owners.


Nyaisangah was born on January 1, 1960 in Tarime District, Mara Region. He started primary school in 1970 in Kenya, pursued secondary education at Buhemba Secondary School and in 1989 he joined Nyegezi College of Journalism.

The late Nyaisangah worked in many media houses in and outside Tanzania, including Voice of Kenya, Radio Tanzania Dar es Salaam (RTD), Radio One, Doutsche Welle and Abood Media. He died on Sunday morning at Mazimbu Hospital in Morogoro Region where he had been admitted.
