Philip Wambugu was all but smiles after winning the Corporate Golf Tournament at the Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) over the weekend.
The handicap-12 golfer scooped 33 points to win Division A top prize in the 18 holes Stable Ford event. The second position went to in-form Richard Gomes also with 33 points but trailed to the winner on count-back.
The first tournament since the Holy Month of Ramadan started last Wednesday brought back about 30 golfers, including the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Vice Chairman Joseph Tango who was in Arusha at the weekend. Handicap 12 Tango tried hard to find his good form, but managed only 31 points in the Division A category to stay in fifth place.
Division B top prize went to Rick Baghel handicap 16 who had the tournament’s best score of 38 points as Dr. J. Njagu finished runner-up with 37 points. Aayush Nathwani handicap 27 continued to yield success at the club taking Division C top prize again this week after collecting just 28 points. Handicap 36 Nihar Manoj with 24 points took second position in the twohorse battle.
Meanwhile, Linda Peter won back-to-back the Ladies June Monthly Mug title at the AGC over the weekend. Linda, who also won the May ladies mug, outclassed other competitors after carding level par 72 to win the 18 holes event. In May she took the title after firing an impressive four-under par 68.
The tournament saw for the second consecutive month national team member Neema Olomi, who is playing off handicap 6, finishing second with 73 nett. She also got the lowest gross score of 79, while Lina Francis handicap 5 came third with 75 nett.
The tournament missed the service of the national team captain Madina Iddi, who has been transferred to Mbeya.
