National ladies golf team member Hawa Wanyeche returned a stunning score to lead by nine shots after two rounds of Lodhia Group of Companies Tanzania Ladies Golf Stroke Play Championship at the Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) course.
The Dar Gymkhana Club (DGC) member, Wanyeche showed that she really means business this year, searching her first Tanzania Open Trophy, after firing level par 72 gross in the morning first round before she carded 73 in afternoon.
She told the ‘Sunday News’ after that: “It was a nice day for me, I could return a better score than that, but par three hole let me down.” The nine stroke lead puts her in a comfortable zone going to the last round of 54-hole annual tournament on Sunday.
In the second position, after second round is host and also national team member Neema Olomi, who got 154 (79, 75), while Lina Francis also from AGC settled third with 155 (77, 78).
Ugandan top player and East and Central Africa Challenge Trophy individual champion Flavia Namakula, who is also searching for her first title in the country, found the going tough in the first day as she finished in fourth place berth with 156.
Namakula, who played in the same group with Wanyeche in Saturday’s two round, carded 79 in the morning and 77 in the afternoon.
Madina Iddi started in the fifth place after returning 79 and 78 at 157. She has to correct her mistakes on Sunday if she has any dream of finishing in top three. Defending champion, Angel Eaton withdrew due to sickness.
