Why Mututho is holding onto CDF office

Nakuru, Kenya: Operations at the Naivasha Constituency Development Fund ( CDF) office could be paralysed after former legislator John Mututho failed to hand over the accounts to the new MP.

Naivasha MP John Michael Mututho

Mututho declined to attend a hand-over ceremony attended by MPs John Kihagi (Naivasha), Mathenge Nderitu (Gilgil) and other senior government officers. Mututho claimed he might be implicated in financial misappropriation if proper auditing is not done.

Contacted on phone, Mututho vowed that he would not hand over the CDF accounts to the new office bearers until the audit was conducted.

He noted that Sh59m had been used since he left office and this could not be accounted for. “I am ready to hand over the office and the accounts to Kihagi and his team once an audit is conducted on the funds we left in account,” he said.

Mututho said he had not been informed in advance about the hand-over ceremony. But addressing the Press in the CDF office, Kihagi said that he had not handled any funds since his election as area MP.

Kihagi said that if any case of misappropriation was to come up, the CDF board should be held liable.
