A prosecution witness, MG 114780 Nemes Minja from Mabibo Police Station in Dar es Salaam, on Tuesday gave an account of how a driver employed by Tanzania Telecommunication Company Limited (TTCL) took part in vandalising and stealing the company’s assets, causing a loss of more than 68m/-.
Adducing evidence before Principal Resident Magistrate Waliarwande Lema of the Kisutu Resident Magistrates’ Court in the city, the witness alleged that the accused, Kalawe Kissoka (48), was found together with three other accused stealing telephone cables valued at 63,948,298/-.
“I found the accused stealing telephone cables, which they loaded into a TTCL pick-up vehicle with registration number SU 39487,” he said. The witness further alleged that after the accused realised that they had been spotted in the act, they ran away with one reel of telephone cables, adding that shortly thereafter he surrendered himself to the police station.
“The accused later came to the police station with the vehicle and the stolen property where he apologised for the theft. That’s when we knew that he was working with the company,” he explained.
