Women in Tanzania have been advised to form groups such as SACCOS so that they can benefit from low interest loan facilities from Tanzania Women’s Bank (TWB).
The advice has been given by the bank’s Managing Director, Ms. Margareth Chacha when addressing a meeting of women working with the National Bureau of Statistics in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
“Time has come for women to join our bank and enjoy quality services for their development,” she said. She said TWB offers competitive interest rates compared to none and emphasized the need for them to form SACCOS and qualify to get loans for their progress.
“What is crucial once women form a group is their faithfulness and verifying their records now and then,” she said. She called upon other public and private institutions to invite the bank so that they can teach especially women on diverse opportunities available and how they can benefit from the bank.
An official from the National Bureau of Statistics office, Ms Slyvia Meku said that they invited TWB officials at their meeting so that they can learn more on opportunities available at the bank and see a way to utilize them for improving their welfare.
“We wanted to know more on opportunities available at the bank,” she said. She said that TWB has been at the forefront to make sure that women in Tanzania attain sustainable development through low interest loans and offering various useful trainings.
“We commend them for these endeavours,” she said, adding that the bank’s efforts should be supported by development stakeholders. A total of 25,000 TWB customers have benefited from loans worth Tshs 33 billion since it started four years ago.
Among those benefited, 82 per cent are women while 18 per cent are men. This translates to over 150,000 people who have benefited (six people per family) directly or indirectly so far from the loans.
