Women to participate in ‘Umoja na Amani Cup’


Umoja na Amani Super Cup will from next year involve women soccer teams in order to promote talented girls following a request by the Tanzania Women’s Football Association (TWFA).

Responding to a request by TWFA Secretary Amina Kaluma, the Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Dr Fenella Mukangara, said next year’s competition would be more improved to promote talent.

“As I said during the opening ceremony, my goal is to have the competition every year and to expand its scope it will involve netball and women’s soccer,” said the minister, who sponsored the competition.

Baruti FC were crowned champions after defeating Kimara United 2-0 on Saturday thanks to wonderful goals by James Msuva in the second half of the thrilling final at Msewe Primary School grounds in Kinondoni municipality.

Msuva, a younger brother of Young Africans and Taifa Stars winger Simon Msuva took home 200,000/- after emerging the competition’s top scorer. He netted seven goals in the two-month competition which brought together 32 teams from Ubungo constituency.


In the final game, Msuva was unstoppable as he terrorized Kimara United defenders at will. He netted the first goal in the 74th minute while the second goal came three minutes to the final whistle.

Baruti FC, who enjoyed a lion’s share of the second half, were awarded a cup, 2m/- and a set of jerseys while runnersup Kimara United took home 1m/-. Third placed Mbezi United pocketed 500,000/-.

Minister Mukangara, who was the chief guest at the event, said the competition not only has helped strengthen unity within the Ubungo constituency but has also promoted solidarity among the youth.
