Yanga to chop Ngassa’s salary

Mainland champions Young Africans’ leadership has resolved to refund Simba 45m/- to bring to bed Mrisho Ngassa’s transfer saga and allow the player to feature in Saturday’s top flight league match against Ruvu Shooting at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

However, the player would see five per cent of his monthly salary being chopped off for the club to recover the money in full.

Ngassa left Simba in the cold immediately after last season’s league in May and signed a two-year deal with Yanga — a move that sparked conflict between the two giants. It happened that the diminutive winger’s name appeared in list of players recruited by both Simba and their bitter rivals Yanga.

Yanga Vice-Chairman Clement Sanga confirmed yesterday that they have decided to shoulder the burden and pay Simba so as to allow the player to feature in the league.

“Simba will be paid accordingly and we’ll channel the amount to the TFF (Tanzania Football Federation) as ordered,” said Sanga, who also said that effective this month, the club management will deduct five per cent from Ngassa’s salary to recover the money.

Ngassa, who was cleared to feature for Yanga this season by the TFF Legal, Ethics and Players Status Committee, was ordered to refund Simba the said amount for contract termination, failure of which he would not be allowed to play for his new club.

The wing wizard was ordered to refund Simba after it was also established that he had signed for Simba and took 30m/- while knowing that he still had a valid contract with Azam. In addition, Ngassa had to pay Simba another 15m/-, as 50 per cent of signing fee compensation.

Ngassa, who was playing for Simba on loan, wrongly entered into a contract with the Msimbazi Reds club, while he still had a valid contract with Azam which, according to the TFF rules and regulations, it was prohibited for a club to enter into contract with a player who is already tied to another club.

The player’s contract with Azam, who owned him, expired since May and it was from that time when he entered into another contract with his current club — Yanga. The committee endorsed Ngassa to play for Yanga but imposed a six-match ban on him. However, he has completed the six-match ban and is available for selection on Saturday
