YouthConnekt Month launched in Rwanda

The Ministry of Youth and ICT (MYICT) and the National Youth Council (NYC) in collaboration with various stakeholders launched YouthConnekt Month last Friday, during this month youth from all Districts will participate in various activities ranging from economic development, social develop and service to communities.

The Theme of YouthConnekt Month 2013 has been set as “The Promise of a generation.” The main goal of this month is to celebrate the achievements so far made within the sector while focusing on the key issues facing young people but also create a platform for youth advocacy and a clear strategy for youth to be able to meaningfully contribute to National building especially focusing on the role of youth to build the society.

The official launching of this month takes place in Western Province, Ngororero in Kabaya sector; during the launch the Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana has urged the youth to embrace the culture of savings, working hard and form cooperatives to be more productive.

Minister Nsengimana argued that the youth need to be more of job creators even starting by the little they have, adding that those who do not have the ability to start a business; they are given starting point via the Kuremera program.

He adds that every cell must have a role model cooperative; “When Rwandans across the country at Village level help Youth to start up a projects it can contribute mainly in forming role model cooperative.”

Youth in Ngororero District are confident that produce more by working hard, Nzanywayinshuti Eugene, 26 is a farmer said that “I cultivate maize, potatoes and I buy lands where I’ll extend my activities, now I saved more than 1 million Rwandan francs, now I urge my brothers and sisters to work hard and I’m sure they’ll get a result.”

The activities planned during this month are centered on the Imihigo for the Sector and the resolutions from the National YouthConnekt convention 2012. These activities will range from those in line with economic empowerment, social contribution, and the use of ICT as a tool for development as well as activities related to sports and entertainment.

The launch at national level held in Kabaya where Isamaza youth cooperative were given two computers, TV screen and a decoder. Those equipments will be used to generate income.
