The Stone Town enjoys 24hrs protection inspection by community policing as the government plans to instal streets lights there, the House was informed on Saturday.
The Minister of State (Police Affairs), Mr Mohammed Aboud Mohammed said community policing has helped to keep the town safe and that development partners are supporting a project to fix street light in the town.
Mr Jaku Hashim Ayoub (CCM-Muyuni) and other legislators asked why the government has not taken the issue of fixing street lights in the town to improve security because it is the centre of tourism attraction.
“We understand the importance of lights in the Town. About USD 38 Million will be used for the lighting project,” said Mohammed Meanwhile, the minister has told the House that his office has started to verify the use of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and that any misuse will be questioned and those responsible held accountable.
